Bias lighting is, simply put, to light up the wall behind a monitor or TV. It creates a glow around the screen and, supposedly, creates a more comfortable and high contrast viewing experience. I made my bias lighting by merely sticking a LED-strip behind the TV.

The ideal color temperature for this light is approximately 6500K. However, I found that to be a bit too “cold” since I use it as a decoration light as well as a bias light. So I went with something a bit warmer, natural white as it was called, with a temperature of 4200K.

It really does make watching TV more enjoyable, and now it feels weird to watch TV without it… I got the LED-strip of eBay; the quality seems to be pretty good, link here. The strip is very bright, so I run mine with a 9 volts AC adapter.

These are the parts I used:

  • 1 × AC adapter, 9 V=, 1 A, 2.1mm jack, SMPS
  • 0.4 m LED strip, SMD5630, Neutral white, 12V, 4200k, 30lm/LED
  • 1 × Power jack, w/wire, female, 2.1mm x 5.5mm
  • 1.5 m Wire, stranded, 2-cores, PVC, 0.33mm2 (22 AWG), Red/Black
